Fire Chief's Message
Since 1891, the Hanford Fire Department has sworn to protect and serve with pride the citizens of Hanford.
As your 15th Fire Chief in just under 150 years, I look forward to filling the prodigious shoes of those Fire Chiefs that have dutifully and passionately served the community since 1891.
I humbly come to serve you as an experienced chief officer, avid instructor as well as a member of the community for the past nine years. I look forward to imparting broad-based knowledge of the artful craft of firefighting, rescue techniques, team building, community risk assessment, risk reduction, community outreach and engagement in an effort to further refine the public services your Hanford Fire Department provides.
Our shared vision for the department is to enhance the safety of the public by providing the utmost professionalism, dedication, and service to those who call the City of Hanford home. We will be working collectively with our staff to strengthen service delivery through reduction in response times, creation of aligned goals within the City’s master plans as well as reducing mortality, morbidity and property loss through effective programs that address the needs of citizens.
This concentration on service delivery is in direct response to the rapid growth experienced over the past 15 years within our idyllic community. These service delivery items will focus on critical departmental infrastructure items, communications, staffing, apparatus, training of departmental personnel and employee health and wellness.
As these are at the forefront of the service delivery needs internally, the outward emphasis will be increasing awareness of the dangers of the modern fire and rescue environment in which our citizens work, live and play. We will be directly addressing these items through diligent community engagement, active and effective Community Risk Reduction and development of regionalized resources of volunteer groups of Community Emergency Responder Teams (CERT).
With both internal and external shared community goals, I proudly look forward to serving our Hanford community into the coming years, developing and refining the service delivery that our community has come to expect from its fire department.
Humbly and respectfully,
Daniel C. Perkins
