Exploring is a program, run by the police department, chartered by Learning for Life, a subsidiary of the Boys Scouts of America. Exploring provides vocational training and experience to young people, ages 14- 20. You must have a desire to learn about law enforcement. Exploring provides an opportunity for young people to be involved in something positive, to receive training and experience in law enforcement and to learn the value of service to their community. It also allows those involved to get an inside look at how a police department functions.

WILL BE RIDING IN PATROL VEHICLES, TAKING PART IN PHYSICAL TRAINING AND PERFORMING IN ACTVITIES IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER CONDITIONS IN THE CITY OF HANFORD AND WITHIN THE COUNTY OF KINGS.
PERSONS WITH WHOM PARTICIPANTS MAY HAVE CONTACT
APPLICANT WILL BE IN CONTACT WITH OTHER EXPLORERS, POLICE OFFICERS, DEPUTIES, ADVISORS, CO-ADVISORS, AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION
APPLICANT WILL BE SUPERVISED BY ADULTS WHO WORK FOR THE HANFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT.
I DO HEREBY CONSENT TO ANY X-RAY EXAMINATION, AESTHETICS, MEDICAL OR SURGICAL DIAGNOSIS OR TREATMENT AND HOSPITAL SERVICE THAT MAY BE RENDERED TO SAID MINOR UNDER THE GENERAL OR SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS OF THER PRIMARY MEDICAL DOCTOR OR ANY EMERGENCY ROOM PHYSICIAN, WHETHER SUCH DIAGNOSIS OR TREATMENT IS RENDERED AT THE OFFICE OF SAID PHYSICIAN OR AT ANY HOSPITAL. WE FURTHER AUTHORIZED SAID PHYSICIAN TO EXERCISE HIS/HER DISCRETION IN AUTHORIZING THE OPTION OF ANY SEVERED TISSUE OR MEMBER.
IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT THIS CONSENT IS GIVEN IN ADVANCE OF ANY SPECIFIC DIAGNOSIS OR TREATMENT BEING REQUIRED AND IS GIVEN TO ENCOURAGE HANFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT EXPLORER PROGRAM ADVISORS AND SAID PHYSICANS BEST JUDGEMENT AS TO THE REQUIRMENTS OF SUCH DIAGNOSIS OR TREATMENT.
THE CONSENT SHALL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL MINORS 18TH BIRTHDAY, UNLESS SOONER REVOKED IN WRITING DELIVERED TO SAID PHYSICIAN OR SAID PERSONS ENTRUSTED WITH THE CUSTODY OF SAID MINOR.
I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT NEITHER THE HANFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT NOR THE HANFORD POLICE EXPLORER PROGRAM PROVIDES MEDICAL INSURANCE FOR EXPLORERS. THE PARENT(S)/GAURDIAN(S) INSURANCE WILL BE THE PRIMARY INSURANCE.
Upon submission of the application, an officer will conduct an internal background check of the applicant, which includes reviewing student records and grades. After this process is completed, the applicant or parent/guardian will be contacted with an update and further instructions regarding any additional required signatures. The entire process may take up to 30 days or longer, depending on various factors, after the time of submission.
