Citizens' Police Academy

The mission of the Citizens' Police Academy is to educate Hanford citizens in the operations and practices of their Hanford Police Department.

The Hanford Citizens' Police Academy includes over 20 hours of skilled and professional instruction delivered in three-hour sessions. We require one-night per week commitment over a six-week period. Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 6 - 9 p.m. Unless otherwise specified, the Citizens' Police Academy will be held at:

  • Department Overview
  • Crime Scene
  • Traffic Stops
  • Use of force
  • SWAT

How participants are selected:

Applicants will be evaluated and notified when they are selected to participate. Potential candidates for the Citizens' Police Academy should meet, but are not limited to the following criteria: 

  • Be a resident of Hanford Area
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • No felony convictions
  • No misdemeanor convictions within one year of application 

After completion of the application, a standard background will be completed.
